The Haunted Forest- Pasadena, CA

The Enchanted Forest

When you approach The Haunted Forest (also known as The Enchanted Forest) at the end of Lake Ave. in Pasadena, California, it definitely has an intimidating first impression. As you walk towards the entrance you see the front gate of the forest. There’s bright street lighting, but as you get closer to the gate, it gets darker and darker. The gate looks like something out of a horror movie or the entrance to hell. Once you pass through the gate, it’s a good idea to have a flashlight with you because you can’t see an inch in front of you in this place. That is unless you look back toward the entrance of the forest with the street lighting. But if you’re interested in going into The haunted Forest, you better bring some flashlights with you or a camcorder with infrared.
People have claimed hearing screams coming from the Forest, but are unable to find anything. There have also been claims of people getting the feeling of being followed throughout the forest while exploring. I’ve had this experience happen to me before. A friend and I decided to come here one night out of curiosity of it’s hauntings. As we explored the forest, we could hear footsteps following us and leafs slowly cracking throughout our touring of the forest. It could’ve easily have been some sort of animal, but after searching areas of where it sounded like the footsteps occurred with flashlights, we were unable to find anything. The sounds of these footsteps continued to follow us until we exited the forest.
Strange lights can also be seen at night on the Echo Mt. hiking trail that connects to the forest. I was hiking up the trail to Echo Mt. one night, and at the time I didn’t know where the trail lead. I took it out of curiosity. Almost getting to the end of the trail, I looked at the very top of the mountain and suddenly saw these blue lights come on out of nowhere. The first light looked like it was searching the mountain for something. Shortly after that, the blue light started coming down the mountain and was followed by another one. Then, a third one started come down. It looked as if they were headed my way. Getting an uncomfortable feeling from this, I decided to turn around and hurry back down the trail back to the forest. I can’t say that this was paranormal since it was from a far distance. It could’ve been anything from hikers coming back down the mountain to mountain bikers. However, it was strange the way these blue lights moved. They were moving too fast and steady. It was also the middle of the night. When I came back down the mountain, I hid and waited for a while to see who or what it was. Oddly enough, nothing ever showed up.

Reflecting back on this now, Los Angeles had a recent UFO sighting. Looking at the photographs, I didn't connect it to this situation until now. The lights that I saw coming down the mountain, looked a lot like the UFO light in the sky. There have been UFO sightings at this location. I didn't believe this claim, until i connected these two events together. Now, claims of UFO activity at this location are more legitimate.

What the lights came down looked like.

Since then, I have been to this forest many times with many friends. Sometimes nothing happens. Sometimes paranormal activity occurs. I’ve brought my digital recorder to this location many times and haven’t been able to come up with anything until recently. I had a K-II EMF (Electro-Magnetic Field) detector and decided to bring it to the forest. This forest seems to respond much more to an EMF detector than a digital recorder. The meter goes from green to red, green being the least amount of EMF’s and red being the most amount of EMF’s. The reason for using an EMF meter is because ghosts are a form of energy and they give off an Electro-Magnetic Field.
A friend and I were about to leave the forest when suddenly the EMF meter started to spike to red. Here were the questions we asked, to which a possible spirit responded. We asked it to leave the meter on green if the answer to the question is no, and to spike the meter to red if the answer to the question is yes.
Is something here with us right now?
Did you stop because I started video taping?
Do you not like the camera?
When I asked if something was here with us, the EMF meter spiked to red. I pulled out my flip camcorder to capture video evidence of the session but was unable to get anything. As soon as I turned off the camcorder, the EMF started spiking again. When I asked if it stopped because I started video taping, it responded with another spike. Whatever spirit was communicating with us, did not like the camcorder on. I went back to the forest the next week with the EMF detector to ask some more questions. I found another spot in the forest where the EMF detector was responsive and got a response to the following questions:
Do you need help?
Is there demonic activity going on here?
These questions I got an affirmative response. It seems that some spirits are in need of help in the forest area. There also seems to be demonic activity in the forest as well, based on the strong EMF response.

Other claims of the forest is that gangland style executions have taken place here. Mr. Cobb, the man who once owned the land doesn't like it when people stand on his steps where his house once stood. Mr. Cobb's house turned into a spiritual retreat for nuns. It' rumored that one of the nuns was raped and hanged in this forest. Satanic rituals are said to have taken place here and is the reason for the forests hauntings. Also, there have been a few reports of sasquatch sightings.

Mr. Cobbs steps and where his house once stood. A clown face has been seen here by a psychic. Also, the smell of rotten flesh has occured here as well. No animal carcasses or anything dead were found. The demonic likes to use repulsive tactics on the living.

If you’re planning to go into The Haunted Forest, make sure you bring some flashlights and protection. Bring an EMF detector with you as this piece of equipment seems to be the most responsive in this forest. Finally, Ground and center before going in and be prepared for anything.

EVP's

This EVP was captured at a place that we've given the title "The Demon Spot." Telling my story to a tour group of getting EMF spikes when I said the word demon, the EMF detector then started to spike right in front of them.  After playing this EVP for a psychic, she started to pick up on visions. She saw African American men in red shirts around a man that was kneeling down on the ground. It's believed that this was a gang that killed one of it's own.

Investigation

This was an Investigation of the Haunted Forest Cobb Estate in October 2012. There are many claims of paranormal activity in this forest, including some brutal history. Everything from gangland style executions to a nun being raped and hanged in this forest. In this video, you'll see the evidence we've gathered from this location. No EVP's were captured at Mr. Cobb's steps, but footsteps are often heard on his property. We did a Spirit Box Session at the top where the water tower is and got some amazing responses. Watch and enjoy!

  2. Alexis Quijada-I just went up there this morning around 4:50 am and saw those blue lights you were talking about. I was there with 3 other friends and we all saw the blue lights except we only saw two. Thinking it was someone we decided to just go back down. When I got to the car I decides to search up the forests history and this page came up. I was shocked to have read your description of the lights which just explained what we just saw.
I don't know if it's people just hiking. But I don't know who would be all the way up there hiking at 4:50am. And the lights seemed to make there way down the mountain way too fast for human speeds.

  6. I've been there many times late at night 1am/3am are around the Times I go. Not once have I seen anything or hear anything. I use different types of equipment to pick things up. Nothing. I go nights in a row too but I give up on this place. I've been to actual haunted paces so I know what I'm doing. There's a nice view of the city though.

  9. It's usually people on drugs who are up there screaming...trust me, a friend I know had the Haunted Forest as his backyard...when I would kick it up in Altadena, we would hear screaming sometimes and just laugh. However the one time I did go in there, I never went back because I got this strange vibe...In my opinion it could be because so many people have tripped out up there and the energy has attracted the unwanted or maybe the unwanted was already there...either way it was creepy as fuck and we just left it at that; we just came to the conclusion most people are up there tripping out on acid and other shit...lol Nice post btw!

  10. Ive seen the blue lights as well but they didnt look like lights but more like distant projections of people walking up the hill in light blue cloaks that were very dim. I could barely make put anything. I just know they were thinner across at the top than through out the rest of the shape which suggests a head and body. it looked like a line of people walking slowly up the hill. My sister saw the same thing and told me what she saw when we got back to the car before i could say anything

  15. Been going up there once a weeks this whole summer. Nothing scary or paranormal about this place. The most you find is highschool kids looking for a place to get drunk or high, gangsters here and there looking for trouble, there are a few creeps up there at times too as well as the bikers and hikers coming down at night. Its a fun place to go at night if you get to one of the higher places and enjoy the view. Like most public places it does close at 10 so dont park around the gate after that as u will be ticketed. Of course you can go up at anytime so long as there are no cops around. Aside from that its fun place to go at night and a great hike during the day. No flashlights are needed as its not that dark. As for sounds the most you hear is people being stupid and yelling and killing the otherwise relaxing experiance

  16. I've been here plenty of times, yeah I'll afmitt my friends and I went up there to drink. But that's about it. People bring Oujia boards. One time we were hanging out at a view and a group of ppl came out with a Oujia board and I left. I am.not messing with that. Kept hearing things too on the way down the trail. Also, make sure you guys don't stay there too long or you will get a parking ticket.

  17. My friends and I went there a couple of years ago.The place is definitely haunted. We all started walking into the Enchanted Forest and it was truly eerie, we all had the feelings of being watched. A couple of my friends decided to hang back. But my adventurous friend and I decided to explore deeper into the forest. War walked past a cliff and there was so trees near by and low and behold I saw someone that was hung in a tree. I asked my friend if she saw it too and she did. We freaked out and ran back to the car in total disbelief in what we saw. The Enchanted Forest is definitely haunted. It's pretty crazy to discover that a nun was hung there. Now I know who I saw. It's so sad that her soul is still there.

  20. Went there back in 1990 with a group of friends to play a game of dungeons and dragons. Needless to say we never stayed long enough to even start playing the game. We heard real eerie screams, and it felt like we were being watched. One of my friends swore up and down that someone touched him. It was like we were not wanted there. I had an aweful feeling like something bad was going to happen if we did not leave. So we turned around and hightailed it out of there. As we got in our cars to leave I turned around to look at the entrance one last time because I had an overwhelming feeling of being watched and saw a figure of a woman standing at the gate watching us. I turned back around to tell my friend and when we looked back she was gone. We could not get down off that mountain and away from that place fast enough. I have never been back since!

  21. I've been there on multiple times but only once did I experience something odd that I still can't explain or understand... In 2011 I went with friends and long story short, up in the mountain I flashed my light and saw a shadow walking, I thought it's a hiker, but with no moon no flashlight and no bright clothing, pure dark, darker than dark itself... It creeped me out and was walking fast ... Person or demon I went back and never saw anything or experienced anything... Blue lights tho I have seen but thought nothing of it.

  26. i had a VERY odd experience there. It was last Halloween night, probably just after 10pm. There were 5 people in our group, and as we pulled up, we saw a couple park, and enter the grounds, the female was about 6 inches taller than the male. we were maybe a minute behind them, and as we rounded the first bend, we noticed to shadows appear just off the trail. Thinking they were just other scare seekers, we said the cordial, "oh hey there" but as we passed where they were standing, our group all realized something odd; they were the same height, hooded, with their heads cocked to the same side, i quickly flashed my flashlight towards their faces, to get a glimpse of who it was, there was no faces on either, just deep darkness. i was expecting the sheen of a black Halloween mask, or anything really, but there was nothing.
we got quite and walked about 20 yards passed them, and huddled up to discuss what we all just saw. , we got quiet to see if we could heear them trying to follow us, or jump out and scare us, but there was silence all around us. we decide we should call it a night there and walk back towards teh bend. They were gone. We quickly scanned the area, there wasnt any one hiding, so we leave. as we were walking out, we glance back, and two shadows were walking directly behind us all the way to the main gates.
has any one ever had a similar experience to this?!?!

  27. After going down the main road past the big tree... Go to the right... Follow a not well-known path with tall plants avoiding the poison ivy. You will then see a large heart-shaped rock with markings... Continue that path until you see a cave. Once you step inside, you'll discover that it's actually a mine and it has no exit routes... I saw someone go in but when me and my friends explored the mine we saw no one there... We found a wine bottle wrapped in strange hieroglyphics and some gold teeth... Legend has it that there is a stash of gold nuggets in that mine... Try to find them if that miner doesn't get to you first however....

  28. Me and my girl went up there a few times so one night we decided to take mushrooms up there since we felt familiar with the spot, we took them at the bottom of the hill and walked to the ruins where the echo phone is we sat by the stair and felt the mushrooms take effect.. (we take psychedelics often enough)..as we sat by the stair at the top we noticed we were the only ones there the time was around 1030 pm we where looking up at the sky when I started hearing moaning like sounds I looked at my girl and asked did she hear it ? And we laughed thinking it was just a teen couple getting dirty at the picnic tables below the ruins but then the sounds took a strange tone it sounded bad like someone being assaulted or maybe an animal being eaten me and my girl argued about what it was but then as soon as it started we heard people coming up the trail and about two groups showed up they didnt seem to hear anything on their way up so we relaxed then 2 hours passed and the parties started to get ready to leave and me and my girl decided to give em a few minutes head start so the trail back down wouldn't be overcrowded about 10 minutes had passed when the last group left and then the moaning or whatever it was started up again I looked at my girl and said wtf if that was an animal being eaten it should of have been long dead ! I looked at my dogs and they seem to be there tracking or focused on something , maybe they hear it as well this time and my girl starts to freak a little so I say grab ur shit we are out of here , but she says we should try to find what it is , cuz it might be someone in need but I say what can we do its late night we o ly have one flash light and thats how horror movies get started.. and she agrees as we make our way back to the main trail back down the mountain a group of three guys come out from one of the other trails with no lights no backpacks and it wasnt a moonlit night so no moon light and my girl grabs my arm my dogs growl so they stop they hadn't noticed us since I heard their foot steps and I turned my light off before running into them.. I say hey guys how is it going they mumble a response and continue on to the trail to the ruins where we were and as I make my girl walk in front of me I keep looking back cuz the guys gave me a bad vibe

  34. Google/Yelp/Wiki: "Sam Merrill Trail" "Lowe Mountain" and "Echo Mountain." It's beautifully historic.. and simultaneously eery. I've hiked there during the day in to the early evening with my husband, quite often. Some people hike at night and you can see the flashlights from the base of the mountain. One day, we decided to hike past Echo Mountain (where the trail veers left.) We found ourselves in an area that was quite different to the narrow trail up.. and not another single person in sight. Which I thought was odd. I had the most eerie sensation, it gave me goosebumps. I felt a strong, negative, energy.. dark. As if something was fixed on us.. watching us. I was also feeling physically ill while picking up on that energy.. dizzy, light headed, gasping a little. I don't think it was from the elevation, as we've hiked there on many occasions, and I've never felt anything like it. I've seen, heard and felt on many occasions spirits, so I am familiar with the sensation. Though it's only when they're negative or something bad happened, when I experience those symptoms. I shared what I was feeling with my husband and we left.. immediately. We headed back down, and amongst other hikers once again, which was a relief. I went home and did some research.. and it seems what I was picking up on was the energy of an asylum back in the day. Nonetheless, the hike back was beautifully scenic and historic.

  36. .... The Mount Lowe Railway existed from 1893 until its official abandonment in 1938, and had the distinction of being the only scenic mountain, electric traction (overhead electric trolley) railroad ever built in the United States. The remnants of the historic railway, tennis court and dance hall is a sight to see.

  37. I’m writing this around 1:00 am. Visited this hike just tonite around 10:30 pm, the night after Halloween. A friend of mine, and a couple we met on the hike all experienced a dark uninviting energy. About a mile in we all heard a sharp scream in the distance, and felt a heavy feeling overcome us as we approached a large shadowing tree siting middle of the pathway ahead of us. We all stop proceeding at this point, and without an exchange of words feel no need to proceed, as if the energy near this tree was that heavy.

Prior to hitting this spot on the trail, we come across a crew of 6 dark individuals. All dressed in black and acting as if all in a weird daze. Probably tripping on some shit I figured, and all hanging right in front of the stairs of the ruins. One girl murmurs to her friends, “do u see those three figures in the distance”, saying this under her breath with a sense of fear and not wanting to be heard says it in a very whispering voice. But I catch what she says bc she was pretty close to me to hear that. I shine my flashlight in the distance to see if I see what she sees and see nothing. Another dude comments to me if I wanted to “join in calling the evil spirits” in a non-joking very serious way.

Another couple that we come across coming down the path (after coming across the group of 6), come towards us rather quickly. They stop at us and the dude explains “some devilish shit” going on ahead and to proceed with caution and to be safe. You can just read “fear” all throughout his eyes. I go into asking more but he doesn’t seem to want to go to into it so I don’t question it. And they continue past us.

After him telling us this is when we start to feel the heaviness noted above. We hear the scream in the distance not too far ahead as well. About this time is when we feel as if we’re not longer invited to be there. a very dark energy seems to overwhelm the area around us. A very sinister feeling believe me.

The girl of the couple we were with explained seeing a shadow hanging from a tree one time she was here, and also hearing the screaming in the distance.

Have no idea what I experienced, but know I felt something. My friend with me is a huge sceptic. Very straight edge girl she is too. So for her to feel uneasiness and heaviness too says a lot. Definitely left with an uneasiness running through me. I still lay here in my bed writing this feeling as if the heaviness hasn’t left. A really sinister experience.

Has anyone experienced the same and may want to talk more about this?
If so, please contact me back. Thank you.

  38. I haven't been to this place in a long time, probably about 8 years. Nothing every happened and we never saw anything but reading all of peoples stories trips me out. I've gone there coupled up with some friends; splitting up at times. Been there with a girlfriend at the time and her two friends. We hiked pretty far up for a nice view, laid out a blanket and spent some timing smoking and generally just chilling. Looking back it's weird that we were so comfortable doing that so late at night. And then the fact that people have had very different experiences there. Seems like I gotta go back now

  39. Actually, I had experienced something at this park that I completely forgot about. I think the first time I had gone, as me and some friends are getting a bit deeper into the trail I look behind us and see two hooded figures following us a good distance back. But I couldn't tell if my eyes were fucking with me and adjusting to the darkness but every time I looked, I could see a couple of what looked like hooded figures, following us with no feet, just sort of dark blobs floating behind us but with the distinction of what looked like heads and shoulders. Trippy place
